I was a little surprised at the poor reviews this book got from a lot of apparent English teachers. I got the book for free on my Kindle and I absolutely enjoyed reading the thoughts of the author, Andy Lear. I didn't expect a "how-to" book and if I remember correctly, he said early on in the book this is not a "how-to" book. He merely shares his thoughts on the Joys of Yachting. I think it was a great book! It made me laugh and it made me want to get on my boat and sail the world.Product details

Very good reading - if you are into boating you will like this. Got the version to read on voyages
Good
A good short read for armchair sailors like me. The author has a great sense of humor. For a short book there are some valuable tips. He gives a different perspective about what sailing is about.
I enjoyed the enthusiasm the author brings to his topic and the manner in which he presents it. What I didn't like was the brevity. It became more a pamphlet than a book, leaving you hoping for a few more (much longer) chapters.
Nonetheless, it is worth the time.
The author has experience but teaches nothing, he has stories, but these don't come through either. Expensive book given the low return on time invested. The author could use this book and add to it within the pages to build a book of value. There are hints of potential yet these are illusive.
I love the fact that it is now easier to get one's writings published with the advent of books. But, one thing that some authors should consider, this one not withstanding, is having somebody go through the material to spell-check and edit grammatical errors. These errors can be very distracting and hinder the flow of reading, especially when you have to re-read a sentence several times just to figure out what the author was attempting to convey. Find a friend or associate to review your work!
If you are just looking for the JOYS of sailing then this book hits the mark! Not too many "how-tos" but some good sea yarns and actually several good poems written by the author, who evidently is a marine engineer.
