Drug smuggler murders on a choppy summer sea, a withered hand found in a harbor island landfill, a large pool of blood splayed over the cold concrete of a downtown Boston subway platform are all invitations for you to travel with Boston Detectives Jimmy Ketchum and Brendan Cobb on an investigation that moves with the speed of a weekend clock.
During the summer of 1991 at the beginning of the Big Dig, they look into the disappearance of a visiting out-of-town family. Is it kidnapping or murder? While they search for answers, two international killers intend to stop all their questions forever.
If that’s not enough, Ketchum and Cobb are trying to plan Jimmy's wedding of a lifetime to his beautiful bride-to-be, Sharyn - all on a policeman’s salary.

This Kindle book read like a first, unedited draft. The story was okay, but marred by missing words and confusing syntax. For instance, on page 180, "We ran power out to his garage and he picked with a second-hand lathe and such, and now he makes furniture." On page 109, "...and the reminder of the heavy weigh the case carried." On page 91, the main characters are driving out of the Boston area to Dennis, on Cape Cod. They drive over the Sagamore Bridge and continue down Rte 6 toward Dennis. All of a sudden, on page 92, they are "Riding the steep arc of the bridge back over the [Cape Cod] Canal..." Later, after a lot of discussion about the case, they turn off at the West Dennis exit. They never did cross back over the Cape Cod Canal and leave Cape Cod. Finally, worst of all, was the description of a Coast Guard 44-foot Motor Lifeboat, "Halfway down, they saw a US Coast Guard 44 boat, the red diagonal stripe running down the helm..." The Coast Guard's red stripe "runs down" the side of the hull; the "helm" is the wheel or tiller for steering a boat. Aside from the obvious lack of editing, the story was a bit difficult to follow.

Boston Harbors Murder eBook James Mullen Reviews

Being from New England I was interested. I liked the reference to the locations, but the story dragged for me. Just so so.
Well written with more than a few good laughs. I liked Jimmy playing the straight man to Cobb. Plenty of action for those that like it.
I'll never see Boston the same way again.
Ketchum and Cobb's story continues; their warm and colorful friendship remains evident; no surprise there. What is the surprise? A twisting murder plot which doesn't run skin deep. This writer not only writes a wonderful blog (you really should try and catch him) but also a wonderful tale. Within his story and with his characters, primary and secondary, he reminds us that humans will surprise us.
The only question from this bibliophile--when will the next K&C book be available?!!
Pretty well written, and it's fun to visualize the myriad Boston settings that are so familiar to those who have lived there- I would read another by this author anytime.
I really can't make up my mind about these people. They both say some very strange things I guess are supposed to be funny, but I don't get it.
Very confusing flow of material. I thought there should be more background on the main characters. I don't understand the reasoning behind the carnage. The basic story was good, but I would have put it together differently. I don't think it flowed very well.
Enjoyed the references and the history of Boston maritime. The story line is interesting re drug trafficking and efforts of police and Coast Guard but some of the violence seemed gratuitous. Would have liked more background on the primary characters and a more consistent pace. Lots of personal stories known and retold by typical fishermen - their stalwart continuity of purpose vs. the greed of traffickers and the crooked caught in their nets could have been captivating.
